Original Native American Peace Medal | 1862 Presidential Series with Original Velvet Collar | Stars This Peace Medal is original in design, size and condition. It's obverse features a bust of Abraham Lincoln with title, "Abraham Lincoln President of the United States" above and year "1862" below. The sculptor, Salatuiel Ellis, is also mention as "S. Ellis Del S.C." It is in naturally worn condition showing some evenly smooth surfaces, while not detracting from the design. The reverse shows a scalping scene above and quiver, bow, bust and tomahawk below. The central scene shows a farming and the very first baseball scene struck in medal. The design is highly sought after. Moreover, this is the scarce 3" or 2 7/8" size. This "medium size" was mainly presented to War Chiefs. This would have been proudly worn and was found in a Washington State Estate. Fortunately, this Peace Medal or Presidential Series is accompanied by the Original Velvet Presentation Collar featuring Stars on each side. This is truly a piece of Americana and the History of Native American Affairs with the United States Federal Government and President Abraham Lincoln. Many times these medals were presented with a treaty and given only to influential Native American Leaders. Most of the originally worn medals are reserved and housed in the collections of the most prestigious museums and institutions including the Smithsonian and American Numismatic Society to mention a couple.
