Description
Offered is a rare vintage exquisitely hand painted decorative lidded jar/dish which shows the Hongs (factories) and trading yard in Guangzhou, China on the Pearl River during the Canton System period in the late 18th/early 19th century. During this time, foreign nations would come to trade with the Chinese as the country was opening up to the West. You can see the flags of the different countries including the United States, the factories and the merchants in the trading yard. The painting on the domed lid shows cargo boats in the busy river harbor and the lid it stopped with a beautiful leaf and berry finial.This dish,
produced by United Wilson Porcelain Factory JUWC in Hong Kong around the 1970's/1980's timeframe, is a decorative high end limited edition copy of the early Chinese Canton Export ones which were produced in the 18th/19th centuries. The base is marked "JUWC" and "1897", the year of the company's founding. The piece shows has a nice aged patina and has an all over crackle glaze.
Dimensions: 7 1/2" long, 5 3/8" wide; the base is 3 5/8 in height, total height is 5 1/2" (base with lid to top of finial).
The piece is in excellent estate condition
and will display beautifully. There are no cracks, chips, repairs or other
notable damage. There is some rubbing of the gilding around the top of the base.
